Beihai day 3 - Lanterns on the beach

It was another sunny day in Beihai! :) We woke up, ate breakfast and relaxed a bit.
Hua's mom wanted to eat at He An again, so we went there for lunch.

Ice tea! :)

Hua ordered a whole fish for them to eat, and ate the fish head. He says the cheeks is the best part!

Me and my father in-law, Lao Lin! He is a funny, but very serious man at the same time. And my face already looks way less red than yesterday! Progress!

Litchi crushed ice for desert!

After eating, Hua and I went grocery shopping. I found this really fascinating! It's a lot of flowers and herbs you can buy to make your own tea. The flowers looked really pretty.

I am also impressed by the amount of different veggies they have. Here's just one part of them.

:* So lovely :)

After buying some veggies and fruit we went to another market to get some meat. They of course also have meat in the grocery stores, but beef is really expensive, so we went to the other market to see if we could find something cheaper!

Lots of veggies

Chickens!

And all the meat. I have never been a fan of butcher shops, and this was no exception. And in the end there wasn't any beef at all! xD

We went for some crushed ice after before heading back home.

Watermelon crushed ice! I know how to order this in Chinese :D

Later in the evening we went with his parents to one of the beaches in Beihai. There's a lot of traffic in the evening, since this is the preferred time to go out because of the cooler weather. People are even driving in the wrong direction of the road. Funny thing though, no one really cares since everyone does it!

We arrived at the beach. It was my first time here, and it was really nice! People were lighting lanterns, sending them up in the air and there was a lot of fireworks too.

This was the one we sent up!

It first flew towards the buildings on the other side of the street, but eventually the wind blew it over the water high up in the air! :)

We went for ice tea and crushed ice after. It's really nice to spend time with Hua's parents. :)

See you in the next post :D

Beihai - Beach time, mega sunburned and more relaxing

Yet another wonderful day in Beihai :) Well, it starts out like that, but later on it becomes more or less a living hell because of MEGA sunburn. You'll see!

So since this is quite a while ago now, I don't remember if we ate breakfast at home or out haha. But we went out for noodles before going to the beach!!

Saying hi to the neighbor's turtle! I named one of them after my mom haha. They are funny animals :)

We went to a place really close to his father's house. The noodles were not so much my taste. Didn't like the soup, but Hua really liked it, so it was worth it :)

And this is the last picture of me before I turn into a tomato! :o

Hua's noodles with pig intestine.

And I got noodles with duck. And I actually found a duck tongue in it too! It was a bit gross :/

Sometimes when Hua eats spicy food, he gets a lot of mini sweat drops on his face. I think it's so cute! :)

Aaaaand then we headed to the beach! We made a pit stop on the way to buy some ice cream :)

It was really good! :D

Alright, so there will be no pictures from the beach since I locked my phone inside our scooter. I didn't feel it was safe enough to put my bag with my phone on the beach with no one to watch it, so it's a bit of a shame, but safety first! I do have a picture from last year though :)

This sculpture is one of Beihai's landmarks and is placed by their silver beach.

So after bathing and splashing around in the big waves for a while we drove home. And stupidity hits here. Forgot to put on sunblock after being in the water. So we drove home in the sun without sunblock and bare shoulders. I couldn't feel the sunburn so much yet though. So we went out for some more food

We went to a place that we also frequently visited last year since they make my favorite noodles in Beihai.

Thei menu!

Cutie waiting for his food

So here it is!

It's beef, mushrooms, cabbage, egg, some kind of been sprouts and some kind of sour veggie I don't like. But the best thing is the broth. It's SOOO good! I will continue to come back to this place every time I visit Beihai for these noodles!

After our noodles we went to RT-Mart to find some shoes for Hua! And yes, he meant to buy kinky shoes :)

Picking them out carefully haha :)

He ended up buying the green ones, and we had a laugh each day after because of the shoes. A wonderful buy!! :D

We went to a cafe that's almost next to his father's house. And now I really started to feel the sunburn. So here you have a very displeased me.

Got yummy mango and strawberry smoothies, but it didn't help the pain !

And here I am. All red. I have never ever been this sunburned in my life, and I have REALLY learnt my lesson. Kids, remember sunblock!! I couldn't sleep comfortably for days, and it hurt to wear anything on my shoulders. I was feeling so miserable :( Thank god for aftersun!!

And that's it for this post! See you in the next one :)

First day in Beihai

So, our first day in Beihai! We've waited so long for this. We had no idea that we would be back so soon, and our trip was actually planned only a couple of months before we left. But when we finally woke up in Lao Lin's house it felt like we never even went home last year!

The view from the terrasse at the top floor. Weather looked kind of gloomy, but that's actually the weather we prefer here! Cloudy, but still very hot!

We went out for lunch at a place called He An with his dad, uncle and cousin. It's one of my favorite places to eat in Beihai!

Hua and our ride, Anyway! :)

So He An is quite a fun place. They have so many different foods displayed, then you walk around and choose the ones you want sent to your table. And it's really cheap too!

Cold dishes like veggies, chicken feet, cow belly and so on.

You can get noodles, soup, fried rice and much more.

They have a place for drinks too! All kinds of fruit juice, crushed ice and ice tea!

So here's what we ordered! Spring rolls.

Pork feet and cow belly (not really my kind of food xD)

Soup

Spiy noodles with beef

Curry udon with beef

One of the things I will NEVER eat. A salad with some kind of worm. I don't know what it's called, but it seems to be very popular in the Guangxi province.

Spicy veggies and pork intestines (again, I don't think I'll ever eat intestines)

Purple buns

It was yummy! And it was nice to spend some time with more of Hua's family :) His uncle went to the city where he works the same day, so it was great having a chance to meet him! His uncle only sees his family every six months because he works in a different city than his family. It must be tough :(

After eating Hua and I drove around the city for a bit. Took a picture of the big supermarket RT-Mart where we do most of our grocery shopping. It's actually a Taiwanese store, but it's going very well for them here!

Hello ! :D

A random street in Beihai

After that we went to get something cold and we cam across Lemon Workshop, which later turned out to become my favorite shop in Beihai!

Their logo and some of their menu

Cutie :)

We ended up buying crushed ice. Hua got the blueberry one. Really yummy!!

And I got the most delicious crushed ice I have EVER tasted. Oh my god this is soooooo delicious. It's mango crushed ice with coconut milk. and this is a match made in heaven! I don't have a number on how many of these I got while we were in Beihai! :D

Went home after that to relax. We had dinner together again in the evening, and then not much really happened. A quiet evening :)

See you in the next post :D
